USING WATER WISELY

I came across these two articles in 2023.   They provide lots of useful information on ways to conserve water.  Following last year's summer you may wonder if this is necessary - but it is.  This coming summer may be very diifferent.  Not all parts of the country have had the exceptional rain that has occurred in for example parts of the North West.

You may ask 'why should I be bothered?'.   Well  - lots of reasons ....

  • Conserving water and storing it e.g. in a butt - provides water for your garden.  This is free water - it saves you money.

  • Storing and using rain water also saves using water from the public supply - this also means saving energy (it takes energy to clean and produce water for our use).

  • By storing water - or 'holding it back' in our gardens stops so much water enetering sewers when storms occur.   This reduces the amount of water suddenly reaching our rivers.  When there is heavy rainfall this water is often mixed with sewage.

  • Our rivers are consequently cleaner.

  • Cleaner rivers are better for wildlife.

  • Cleaner rivers are healthier for those who use rivers for swimming and other recreational activities.
